Distance Learning

Dear St. Gabriel's Families,

At this challenging time in our country, it is more important than ever that we are in communication with each other as one unified school community. Our Catholic faith has always guided us emphatically to welcome all, love all our neighbors, and honor the dignity and worth of all God's people. It has taught us that to work for inclusivity and social justice, and against racism and injustice, is the work we are all called to do. St. Gabriel's has always endeavored to raise children who will become adults with just this moral focus in mind, and we will continue to do so with a deep commitment to this charge.

We are also committed to creating outstanding plans for our fall programming. So, looking forward over the next two months, our School Reopening Task Force will use this weekly Summer Messenger format to consistently communicate with our community as we plan for our return to campus this fall.

Yes, that is our goal, to reopen in person on August 18 as planned, but with noticeable updates. There will certainly be health procedures in place for all of us to follow that may include staggered arrival times to allow for daily temperatures taken in carpool; socially-distanced desks in classrooms, updated hygiene practices throughout the day, increased daily cleaning and sanitizing practices, and limited student rotations to account for contact tracing as necessary. These procedures will be in compliance with government guidelines as well as responsive to the needs of our SGCS community. We are committed to communicating these plans as they are finalized throughout the summer.

Additionally, the Task Force is working diligently on educational and technology plans with options for families who return to campus as well as for those who may not be able to send students back to campus in August. In-person and remote plans will each provide the fully robust and enriched curriculum and experience that are hallmarks of our wonderful School.

We know how desperately we all wish for definitive answers for the fall, and while there is simply no way for anyone to provide those answers at this point, we are absolutely clear on the priorities that guide the Task Force as we plan:

  1. St. Gabriel's will make all decisions and modifications in regard to reopening plans in alignment with the Mission and Vision of the School.
  2. St. Gabriel's reopening plans will prioritize the physical, spiritual, and emotional health and safety of our students, their families, and our faculty and staff.
  3. St. Gabriel's will consistently communicate reopening plans as they evolve.
  4. St. Gabriel's will provide an educational experience that is exceptional, dynamic, interactive, and intentional regardless of learning format.
  5. St. Gabriel's will leverage technology and instructional resources to support all aspects of a superior educational experience.
  6. St. Gabriel's will ensure that our extraordinary culture of integrity, caring, and excellence is delivered regardless of learning format.
We wish you health and happiness as you enjoy your family this summer! Please stay in touch with us so we know how you are. We are joyfully planning for the day we get to be with you all once more in August.
