Caroline Keyes, Class of 2014

Stanford University
With an incredible passion for serving others, she draws upon her formative years at St. Gabriel’s to engage in local and global issues and to inspire others to do the same. While at St. Gabriel’s, Caroline received numerous awards and accolades for her leadership and ability to mobilize others in the service of those in need.

“The biggest take away from my St. Gabriel’s education is to show compassion for everyone and to go above and beyond what I think possible to achieve my goals.” She recalls lessons learned in the classroom and on service trips that have formed her into the compassionate person she is with a natural inclination to be ambitious and to work hard for what she wants.

“I remember my teachers challenging me to excel in Spanish so I could use it as a tool for not only communicating with those of a different language but to acknowledge the power it holds as a way of connecting empathetically with another.” She also developed a love of writing while working on the school yearbook where she eventually assumed the role of editor in chief.

Putting these two skills together, she and a classmate embraced an entrepreneurial spirit and launched Palabras R&C, a website that seeks to bridge the gap between clients and businesses separated by a language barrier, in order to create an accessible environment for people of different cultures and backgrounds.

Caroline has been recognized with numerous Outstanding Achievement Awards and Academic Awards of Excellence, was honored as a National Merit Commended Scholar, achieved a Varsity Soccer Academic- All State award, a National Charity League Modelette Award, was the Salutatorian for her graduating High School Class, and more than 5 awards in the National Spanish Exam, just to name a few of her honors.

When asked what it means to be a St. Gabriel’s alumnus, she says “it means always having a home to return to.”
