List of 5 frequently asked questions.

  • Q. What are immunization and record requirements?

The policy of St. Gabriel’s Catholic School and the Diocese of Austin requires all students to be immunized, as outlined in Texas Administrative Code (TAC), Title 25 Health Services and the Diocese of Austin handbook. We do not accept official exemption affidavits at St. Gabriel’s. Our staff monitors all student immunization records throughout the school year and will notify families if state-required immunizations are missing. Families failing to present the required immunization records will not be accepted for enrollment.
  • Q. What if my child has to take medications at school?

The policy of the Diocese of Austin only authorizes St. Gabriel’s personnel to administer medication prescribed by a licensed physician or dentist which is labeled by a registered pharmacist. Parents must sign and submit a Diocese of Austin Medication Permit Form to the school nurse prior to administering any medication to a student.
  • Q. What if my child gets ill at school?

Students who become ill at school must visit the school nurse, who will evaluate the child and contact parents with recommendations for further action if necessary.
  • Q. When can my child return to school after illness?

Students should remain at home when they exhibit the first symptoms of any illness. Please refer to the Guidelines for Return to School from the Diocese of Austin health handbook policy to determine whether you should send your child to school after an illness.
  • Q. What if my child has a life-threatening allergy?

Parents must fill out an Emergency Health Care Plan for Anaphylaxis form indicating their child’s allergies and what to do in case of emergency.
