Our Approach

STEAM

St. Gabriel’s Pre-K 3 through 8th grade students bring ideas to life in the d.lab for Making: a creative, collaborative workspace for hands-on and open-ended learning. Design thinking and the Maker mindset are integrated into the classroom curriculum with authentic and meaningful connections.

WHAT IS STEAM?

Maker Education empowers students by creating opportunities to shape and influence the world around them.  Using design thinking, students develop a growth mindset and build skills in creativity, logic, teamwork, and empathy while creating meaningful solutions for real-world problems.

Our approach to STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) integration allows for experiential learning with an emphasis on innovation, solution-seeking, and collaboration. Students receive instruction in using a variety of tools for sewing, woodworking, modeling and fabrication, 3D printing, vinyl and laser cutting, and much more.

The d.lab for Making is the first makerspace of its kind in Central Texas to serve Pre-K 3 through 8th grade students. It is a collaborative learning environment that brings together people, ideas, and tools, and fosters a sense of community through creation.
We believe Making challenges the imaginations of our students, builds confidence and creativity, and teaches important lessons about perseverance and resilience. If our students can imagine it, they can construct it in the d.lab for Making!
