  • Promotes classroom collaboration using Google Apps for Education which provides various real-time creation and sharing platforms
  • Helps students make the power of media and technology a positive force through Common Sense Media and learn how to protect themselves online
  • Promotes usage of Apple Education suite of tools and resources that support K-12 education
  • Provides instructional coaching to teachers as they facilitate progressive learning environments
  • Supports blended learning environments using different tools and strategies for student engagement
  • Creates project-based learning environments to teach students to excel in collaborative settings

By incorporating innovative learning into the classroom, we are preparing our students to be future ready for whatever lies ahead of them as they learn, work and live their lives to the fullest.

Examples of Innovation: SGCS TopChef

It’s no secret that the teachers of St. Gabriel’s Catholic School in Austin TX are masters of their craft.
The terrific instructional staff of St. Gabriel’s Catholic school is engaging in a fantastic professional development event called SGCS TopChef. This exciting challenge began April 1st

Each week, our teachers will be given 3 QuickFire Challenges, which contain 3 innovative strategies. Teachers will choose one strategy to add into their lesson plans and post a lesson artifact in the SGCS Google Classroom. At the end of the week, one name will be chosen at random from the pool of teachers who submitted artifacts. The chosen name will receive 1 of 7 awesome prizes.

SGCS TopChef is aimed at sharing best practices and building collegiality through fortifying our culture of mentoring and learning. The event will run until the end of May and promises to be a superb way to top off a marvelous year at St. Gabriel’s Catholic School.

Historical Hero Film Festival (3rd Grade)

St. Gabriel's Catholic School brought history to life during our Historic Heroes Film Festival in 3rd grade. Students selected a historical hero based on reading their hero's biography. Once the hero was selected, students researched their hero and created an autobiographical speech regarding their hero's life and historical significance.

To add to their speech, students constructed a scaled model of their hero, including notable characteristics that made their hero unique. Students were filmed reciting their speech with their hero models and the clips were compiled into class films. Additionally, students created a trading card of their hero, using the app "Trading Card for iOS" to highlight notable accomplishments about their chosen individual.

3rd grade families gathered to enjoy viewing the Historic Hero films with some popcorn! It was a fantastic way to create and learn about notable humans that have contributed greatness to our world.
