After School Enrichment

Welcome to the Lower School's After School Enrichment Information Page.  We've simplified our program to make it easier for you to locate information, communicate your selections and refer back as often as you need to for information.  This three-step process is easy to follow:
    1. Below is a detailed menu of ALL after-school enrichment activities.
    2. Simply click on the Registration button to the right to select your activities 
    3. You will be billed via FACTS
Activities are offered throughout the year across four, six-week sessions:
    • Session 1: September 10th -October 19th | 3:30 p.m. - 4:45 p.m.
    • Session 2: October 29th -December 14th | 3:30 p.m. - 4:45 p.m.
    • Session 3: February 4th -March 15th | 3:30 p.m. - 4:45 p.m.
    • Session 4: April 1st -May 10th | 3:30 p.m. - 4:45 p.m.
Three of our programs are 12 weeks instead of six.

While the entire academic year of enrichment offerings is viewable, registration and payment are available one session at a time. Registration for Session 2 is now open.

Cub Club Cooking

  • Pre-K 4 - 4th | Wednesday

    Cub Club Cooking is a fun way to introduce students to healthy foods and empower them to make snacks on their own! During a class, students work together to create tasty dishes that they will get to enjoy at the end of each class. Students will learn how to chop, mix, measure, and practice basic cooking skills in a fun and safe environment. Our program is nut-free, and we can accommodate any other dietary restrictions. In addition, members get an apron and a kid-friendly chef knife to take home at the end of the classes! Some of the dishes we have made in the past are parfaits, wraps, guacamole, fruit salads and more!

Just Imagine!

  • Pre-K-1st: Just Imagine Productions | Tuesday

    Theater Rocks! 
    In this fast-paced, fun, and super-creative program, kids are the directors, producers and stars!  Become hilarious characters, create awesome scenes, produce a music
    video or create a short musical! The stage is yours!  Theater is amazing for ALL kids! Join us each week and see what the fun is all about! Each session is exciting and new!

  • 2nd-4th: The St. Gabriel's Theater Troupe | Tuesday

    In each fast-paced, six-week program, students become directors, producers and actors in their own amazing works! Become the producers of your new web-series, star in your own hilarious improvisations, direct a short film or a play! Each session is a new adventure and students direct alongside their Austin director/guide!  Our Just Imagine methods are proven to foster creativity, problem-solving, teamwork and confidence in all students! Join us on this awesome ride and see what YOU create!

Saber Athletics

    Saber Athletics, for 3rd and 4th grade students, will introduce participants to fundamental skill sets to four different SGCS middle school sports.  All classes will be led by the SGCS coaching staff and promises to be a great first impression to SGCS Athletics.

Sportball

    Sportball is designed to help children develop the skills and confidence they need to get in the game of basketball, soccer, baseball, volleyball, football, hockey, tennis, and golf! Our passionate and highly trained coaches break down games into kid-sized bites of fun that promote the fundamentals and encourage teamwork. Kids play and learn a new sport each week as they progress their abilities and knowledge in sports!

    Basic skills are taught slowly to help the students learn how to effectively and safely control the drone while it is in the air.

Dance with Ms. Parra

  • Pre-K - 1st | Tuesday; Spring Only (12-Week Program)

    Turn, leap, and shine like a star in after-school dance.  Learn ballet, jazz, and performance technique in a fun, nurturing, yet structured environment. Students gain strength, flexibility, poise, and self-confidence while learning age and skill-level appropriate technique and choreography.  The class concludes with a recital where costume-clad students demonstrate their dance skills by performing choreographed pieces for family members and friends.

Art with Mrs. Webel

    Mrs. Webel returns to our after-school enrichment program to offer the following courses.

    Session 1
    Fiber Arts Fun
    Artists hand sew a pillow with pocket and trim, weave a CD or hula hoop, learn crochet and finger weave basics, and ‘yarn bomb’ a favorite object!

    Session 2
    Amazing Animal Art
    Artists draw, collage, print with foam, and sculpt in wire and more about their favorite animal!  Each class starts with an exciting and fun animal drawing game.

    Session 3:
    Cool Clay
    Artists explore the awesome world of clay while creating fun kiln-fired ceramic sculptures of food, animals, and functional ware using pinch and coil methods of hand building!

    Session 4:
    Painting Experiments
    Artists paint with brushes and wands on paper, canvas, and wood, learning new techniques and experimenting with color and line in watercolor and tempera!  Artists also create their own home made inks and paints by grinding pigments found on walks around our school grounds.

Camp Einstein

    Session 1
    Science Discovery & Design 
    Get to know your world on an elemental level as a budding scientist in this fascinating class!  Students will be mesmerized as we study how germs grow, explore chemical properties and dissection!  Creativity will flow in our design labs where we tackle real-world problems, tinker and construct take home projects.  Don’t miss out on this well-rounded science and engineering class!

    Session 2
    Machine Mastery
    It’s all about the Engineering Design Process in this hands-on mechanical engineering class!  Student’s will tinker and build as we study simple mechanics and tackle engineering design issues.  We will test and refine fun projects like crazy catapults, speed racing dragsters and topsy-turvy rollercoasters!  We never stop moving in this exciting class!

    Crazy Chemistry 
    Are you crazy about chemistry?!  You will be after this class!  Jr. chemists will experiment with the periodic table and the fascinatingly fun reactions that can occur when certain elements interact.   We will create explosive experiments, investigate acids and bases, have ooey-gooey fun!
     
    Session 4
    Engineering Inventions
    Take a journey with us as we study famous inventors & recreate their inventions!  This class is all about tinkering & understanding how things work.  We will discover how Edison perfected the light bulb, design propeller cars, and construct aircraft-carrier catapults!  Students will learn how to solve engineering and design challenges that they can apply in real world situations!

Saber Singers

    Led by our new music teacher, Mrs. Nyaga, students will learn basic musical skills, stage etiquette, build self-esteem, and develop their ability to perform on stage.  Saber Singers will be introduced to a variety of musical genres including church, Broadway, classical, and world music.

    Wanna learn how to start your own business? With Start-Up, we'll help you tap into your inner boss by showing you how to create, develop, and execute your ideas. Through real-life sales opportunities, you'll get the chance to learn by doing, and maybe even make a little cash! So, what are you waiting for-- let's Start-Up!

    Westlake Chess Association President Dr. Julia Hall returns to lead development
    of a Lower School Chess Club. The weekly Chess Clu will be held on Fridays in
    the library and is available to K-4th grade students for only a nominal annual
    dues of $35.  Players in Westlake Chess Association's training programs won the 2015 Region VI Championship and have placed as tournament champions in
    2013, 2014 camp; 2015 for both High School and Primary level play.  Parents are
    welcome to attend and watch chess match play. Dr. Julia Hall is a Math and
    Physics teacher at Eanes ISD and a TEA Certified Math Teacher.  She holds a
    Geophysics and Seismology PhD from the University of Texas at Austin and is a
    United States Chess Federation Certified Official Chess Tournament Director
    and acting Chief Tournament Director of Westlake Chess Tournaments and Programs. She's a mom of two and a Westlake resident.  We are blessed to have her available and committed to lead us in the establishment of a Chess Club for the upcoming 2016-2017 academic year.
