St. Gabriel’s employs a full-time registered nurse to ensure the health and wellbeing of our students and create a healthy school environment. She serves as a leader in our school community to oversee health policies and programs. Each day she is available during class hours to assess student health concerns and make recommendations to parents for further action. Please communicate to her any special health needs or concerns you have for your child.
St. Gabriel’s immunization policy requires all students to be immunized, as outlined in Texas Administrative Code (TAC), Title 25 Health Services and the Diocese of Austin handbook. We do not accept official exemption affidavits at St. Gabriel’s. Our staff monitors all student immunization records throughout the school year and will notify families if state-required immunizations are missing. Families failing to present the required immunization records will not be accepted for enrollment.
The policy of the Diocese of Austin only authorizes St. Gabriel’s personnel to administer medication prescribed by a licensed physician or dentist and labeled by a registered pharmacist. Parents must sign and submit a Diocese of Austin Medication Permit Form to the school nurse.
Students who become ill at school must visit the school nurse, who will evaluate the child and contact parents with recommendations for further action if necessary.
Students should remain at home when the exhibit the first symptoms of a disease. Please refer to the Guidelines for Return to School from the Diocese of Austin health handbook policy to determine whether you should send your child to school after illness.
